No, video introductions are optional. However, in some instances, such as Brown University, video introductions have replaced the alumni or PLME interview. Therefore, this optional video allows admissions to see who you are as a person. Your video should provide insights that could not otherwise be captured in your essays.

For schools such as Brown University, UChicago, and Washington in St. Louis, videos can be created beforehand and submitted into the portal. Ideally, this process should be two months prior to the deadline to give ample time to collect videos and images, record, edit, and make revisions. While videos can certainly be created on shorter notice, it may not be of the best quality.

You’ll first be paired with Dr. Darlene to create a concept and script for your video. Students will meet with our in-house video editor, Spencer, to go over how to film and record videos properly. The student will then work on collecting photos and videos that help portray their story. When all the materials are ready, Spencer will stitch and edit your videos. The drafts will be sent to you for your review and you can let Spencer know what revisions you would like to make. From start to finish, the whole process can take about 6-12 hours meeting and editing time.
