What’s it like working with us?

We like to think of ourselves as your mentor throughout your entire journey into medicine. We not only look at short term goals of getting into a BS/MD, but also how to get you into your dream specialty. Our services are rooted in getting to know our students individually. Application Architect is purposely kept as a small company so that Dr. Darlene can get to know you outside of your resume. Because your application should represent who you are, Dr. Darlene believes that she can only advise on creating a strong application when she understands her students holistically.

Throughout the process, you will either only work with Dr. Darlene, or Dr. Darlene + an editor. We would start with formulating an application strategy, before moving on to brainstorming/outlining or essay editing. Our editing process is different from most companies; we do not simply edit essays that you give us. We are very particular about the theme, style, structure, storytelling, and overall message of your essays.

We also offer services for Casper Test preparation, interview prep, and video editing. Dr. Darlene is known by her students to be a tough interviewer because she wants her students to impress their BS/MD interviewers. Our interview prep sessions are not designed to just give you a feel for interviews. You will learn how to interpret any question and strategically answer them. Dr. Darlene has trained hundreds of students for interviews at the top BS/MD programs and has specific strategies for MMI. As an Application Architect student, you will also receive exclusive materials with examples and insights into the application process to guide you throughout the entire process.

Applying to BS/MD

BS/MD and BS/DO programs are notoriously competitive. Some programs even have as low as 1-2% acceptance rates. However, acceptances into 6-8 year BS/MD and BS/DO programs can save time, money, and stress from applying to medical school in the traditional route.

She is currently training at one of the top 5 programs in the country in family medicine. While many places will offer similar services, Dr. Darlene is very particular about the strategies she uses to frame an application and interview answers. She has years of experience and has seen numerous successful BS/MD and medical school applications. Furthermore, her experiences and strategies have helped studied earn coveted acceptances to some of the top BS/MD programs including Case Western BS/MD, UPitt BS/MD, and Rochester REMS BS/MD.

Despite her credentials, Application Architect also offers a more affordable rate than most companies as Dr. Darlene believes that this service should be more widely affordable. This is also a reason why slots to work with Dr. Darlene are limited each year. Whether you are working directly with Dr. Darlene or an essay coach, Dr. Darlene typically reviews the final versions of essays prior to submission.

Our process of signing up is bit more nuanced than most companies. We are quite selective about the BS/MD candidates that we choose to work with. We believe in working with students who are overall a good fit for the mentorship we are able to provide. Some of the factors that we consider are GPA, SAT/ ACT, extracurriculars, and ability to articular their reasoning for medicine. If we choose work with a student, this does not guarantee an acceptance to a BS/MD program. Vice versa, if we choose not to work a student, this does not mean they are unable to get into a BS/MD program.

As we provide close mentorships with our students, we take pride in personally getting to know our students. This allows us to help students craft more personal and thoughtful applications. Students that we typically work with excel academically, and exude a passion for medicine through innovation, advocacy, and community work. They have done the work to understand why they want to join the field of medicine.

In the past, our most successful students took the time to brainstorm carefully with our mentors prior to writing essays. Rather than just pulling narratives from a resume, our goal is to help students consider personal experiences that demonstrate their growth, leadership, and commitment to their community. Once an essay is drafted, it will be meticulously reviewed. Dr. Darlene prefers to review every essay prior to submission, even if you have worked with an Application Architect mentor.

For interviews, Application Architect students have priority in scheduling with Dr. Darlene, who is one of the most sought after BS/MD interview coaches for her interview prep courses. For the past several years we have maxed out at capacity early on. Our acceptance rate for post-interview has been approximately 90% including programs at REMS, Case Western, NJMS, Penn State, VCU and more. Dr. Darlene and her team not only coach students on commonly asked questions, but will also prepare them to navigate difficult and unexpected questions.

If you are interested in working with us, please reach out to us through the Contact page. You will be asked to submit your stats, resume, and a short blurb about your interest in medicine. If Dr. Darlene feels that you could be a potential strong fit for our program, a free introductory call will be offered to understand how your goals may align with the services we can provide.

Application Architect believes in making this process as flexible as possible for our students. We understand that a lot of things will change during the application process, so we want our families to be in control of what services they want to use. Therefore, our services are charged on a flat rate basis. We do not offer any packages as they can limit the number of essay edits, consulting sessions, or interview prep sessions.

Application Architect is confident in the services that it provides and the relationships that we build with our families. For this reason, we do not charge a retainer fee. Our families only pay for the services that they use.

There are many ways to get into medical school. BS/MD and BS/DO’s are just one of the paths. However, these direct medical programs often provide a guarantee to medical school if certain GPA requirements are met. Some schools do not even require an MCAT, which affords students more time and money to explore other endeavors.

This depends on your specific circumstances. BS/MD and BS/DO’s don’t look at any one application category. However, GPA and SAT scores still matter to some extent. Talk with a mentor at Application Architect to discuss application strategies that are tailored to your profile.

While we can never guarantee a result, our goal is to help you craft an application that puts you in the best possible light to the admissions committee. There are many factors that influence a BS/MD or BS/DO interview and acceptance.
